About the project
Delapré Wellbeing is a new wellbeing hub being developed for our Northamptonshire community. We want to empower people across the town to take control over their health and wellbeing through cultural experiences, events, classes and more. It is created by, led by, and designed by you.
The project is one of 37 from across the country to receive funding from the Thriving Communities Fund. The fund has been set up to support communities to address the issues that they face as a result of Covid-19.
Walk to the Future
Fridays at 11am at Delapré Abbey
Two brand new walking groups aimed at supporting individuals and carers who have been affected by cancer. Held on Thursdays at 1pm at West Glebe Pavilion in Corby and Fridays at 11am at Delapré Abbey in Northampton, these free beginner friendly weekly walks are led by local Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service from Kettering and Northampton General.
“The Comfort Book” Book Club
Weekly from Monday 21st February, 10am-11am

Join us at the beautiful Delapré Abbey to read, discuss and share at the open to all ‘The Comfort Book’ Club.
This event will be running once a week beginning on 21st February with a chapter of ‘The Comfort Book’ covered in each session.
Meet us in this safe space for as many of the sessions as you want. Get out the house, meet new people, and voice your opinions, and emotional reactions to the book chosen by your community. Participate as little or as much as you want to- the floor is yours and we can’t wait to see you.
Snakes and Lattes Board Game Café
Starting Monday 21st February, 12noon-2pm

Grab a latte, hot chocolate or a delightfully delicious tiffin from our café and settle down with a board game! Bring along an old favourite to share with new people or choose from the selection of games on offer (Although we withhold the right to confiscate Monopoly!)
Relax and reconnect as you spend some time rolling the dice and climbing ladders and having fun!
Laughter Yoga Workshop With Ishi Khan
Thursday 17th March, 6-7pm and Monday 11th April 6:30pm-7:30pm

We can forget so easily how vital laughter is in bringing people together, manifesting positivity and allowing us to feel free!
Ditch the stress and come along to our ‘Laugh it Off’ workshop. Let go of all the pressures of everyday life…with a good ol’ fashioned howl of hilarity!
The sessions are facilitated by specialist laughter therapist Ishi Khan and are sure to put a smile on your face.
Friday 8th – Monday 18th April, South Lawn, Free entry
In Memoriam is a new touring artwork by Luke Jerram. Presented in the open air, this large-scale installation is a temporary memorial for the public to visit and remember all those we have lost from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Alongside the installation there will be a programme of events to get involved in.
Photography Workshop With Dan Cocks
Monday 18th April, 6:30-8pm
‘Photography is the story I fail to put into words’ – Destin Sparks.
Come along to our ‘Stay in Focus’ photography workshop and not only spend time hearing from a professional who has found his voice through the lens but take part in an educational and explorative workshop where you are given the tools and opportunity to explore how you see the world.
Meet new people, learn new skills or refresh old ones amongst the beauty and history of Delapré Abbey.
Wednesday 20th – Sunday 24th April
Relax and unwind at Delapré Abbey with four days of informal talks, classes and performances designed to increase your health and wellbeing. Let loose and move your body as you soak in the beautiful surrounds of the historic Abbey and its surrounding green spaces.
With a varied programme, you can choose which events you’d like to attend to create your own tailored experience.
Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week
Tuesday 3rd – Sunday 8th May, Free event
Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service (SPMHS) will be hosting events during the week raising awareness of maternal mental health conditions and providing details of the support available in Northamptonshire. The service provides assessment, advice and specialist treatment and support for women in Northamptonshire who experience moderate to severe mental health conditions during pregnancy and after having a baby.
Beginners Digital Skills
Starting Wednesday 4th May, 1.30pm to 3.30pm for 4 weeks
This course will give you some confidence to use digital skills in your everyday life, in the workplace and for fun. This course will teach you how to find out more about yourself and make a future plan. You will learn and practice some of the things related to how to stay safe online, find information online and set out/type/create a document.
Wednesday 4th, Monday 9th & Wednesday 18th May, various times
As part of our wellbeing programme we are pleased to be working with Fevered Sleep who have created Grief Gatherings. They’re small, free group conversations about grief and they’re open to all. There is no obligation to talk, you’re welcome to just sit and listen.
These will last approximately 1 ½ hours.
Comic Book Workshop

Could you be the next Stan Lee? Join Warts and All Theatre’s ‘Heroic Writer’ workshop and explore the exciting world of comic book creation. Create your own heroes, villains and monsters, based on your imagination and the emotions that are simply waiting to be brought to life, all your wildest characters and storylines will come to fruition in this workshop!
Delapré Abbey Preservation Trust with core partners Action for Happiness Northamptonshire, Warts and All Theatre, The General Practice Alliance Federation, Northampton Leisure Trust, Northamptonshire Sport, and the University of Northampton will work to put communities at the heart of public health.
Delapré Abbey Preservation Trust
Delapré Abbey Preservation Trust is an independent charity and company limited by guarantee. The Trust was set up to preserve and promote the heritage and natural environment of Delapré Abbey and the former Bouverie estate. In 2021, responding to new leadership and the impact of the 2020 Covid pandemic, we are refocussing our efforts and broadening our reach and impact. We deliver a range of programmes and activities that support lifelong learning, curiosity and an improved wellbeing.
The University of Northampton
The project will be backed up by research by The University of Northampton who will provide an evaluation of the project in partnership with Thriving Places Index and identify achievements. The supporting evaluation from the University demonstrates its continued commitment to making Northamptonshire the leading county in the UK for Health and Wellbeing.
Action for Happiness Northamptonshire
Action for Happiness is a national and international charity committed to building a happier and more compassionate society based on the framework of ’10 Keys to Happier Living. The Northamptonshire Action for Happiness hub was formed in February 2017 with eight like-minded people. This has grown from Northampton to cover the whole county with an agreed local strategy and is now Action for Happiness exemplar site. Northamptonshire hub has many different wellbeing programmes that include the Happy Café network, partnerships with Delapré Abbey, General Practice Alliance and Northamptonshire Healthcare Foundation 0-19 service to name a few, as well as over 2,000 social media followers.
Warts and All Theatre
Warts and All Theatre, is a theatre company with a vision to create theatre where everyone belongs, voices are heard, society is fair and communities thrive. Alongside the community they will create and shape a programme of wellbeing activities that reflect service users’ needs.
The General Practice Alliance Federation
Covering nearly all the GP population of Northampton, and employing the majority of PCN Social Prescriber Link Workers across the town, will use a community participative approach to support raising awareness of green social prescribing as a community asset. Embedding the project within the existing networks will help ensure that more people are reached and it has a legacy.
One of 43 Active Partnerships across England, Northamptonshire Sport is a local charity dedicated to helping the people of Northamptonshire become – More Active, More Often. Northamptonshire Sport work with local and national partners to reduce inequalities and enable people to enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle.
Northampton Leisure Trust
Trilogy Wellbeing is a not for profit charity and social enterprise based in Northampton. Working with multiple partners, Trilogy Wellbeing operates leisure and wellbeing facilities and supports community programmes across Northampton. Trilogy is committed to developing community-based opportunities for people of all ages to support their health and wellbeing.
