About the project
Delapré Wellbeing is a new wellbeing hub being developed for our Northamptonshire community. We want to empower people across the town to take control over their health and wellbeing through cultural experiences, events, classes and more. It is created by, led by, and designed by you.
The project is one of 37 from across the country to receive funding from the Thriving Communities Fund. The fund has been set up to support communities to address the issues that they face as a result of Covid-19. Find out more
Event calendar
Stretch to the Future Yoga
Tuesdays, Delapré Abbey’s Coach House, 6:15-7:15pm
Stretch to the Future Yoga is a programme developed by Northamptonshire Sport, Macmillan Cancer Information and support leads.
Participants are asked to make a donation towards the classes, all money raised will go back into sustaining the classes.
The classes support individuals who have been affected by cancer and whose quality of life can be maintained or improved through taking part in regular physical activity. It is available to patients who have been diagnosed with any cancer type and are pre-treatment, undergoing treatment or post-treatment.
Delapré Abbey Health Walk
Wednesdays from 10am, meet in the Delapré Abbey car park
A walk which explores the grounds around Delapré Abbey – suitable for more regular walkers.
This walk is delivered by Trilogy Active under the umbrella of the Ramblers Wellbeing Walks programme. The programme is funded by West Northamptonshire Council.
Walk to the Future
Fridays at 11am at Delapré Abbey
Two brand new walking groups aimed at supporting individuals and carers who have been affected by cancer. Held on Thursdays at 1pm at West Glebe Pavilion in Corby and Fridays at 11am at Delapré Abbey in Northampton, these free beginner friendly weekly walks are led by local Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service from Kettering and Northampton General.
Walk and Talk
Saturdays at 10:30am, meet at Delapré Abbey’s Coach House, Free
A 2hr inclusive, friendly wellness walk around the beautiful grounds of Delapré Abbey. There are no restrictions with ability or experience as these walks are at a slow pace using marked trails. Don’t worry there is no pressure to talk but many people find this time great for talking through issues they may have at work, home or just an opportunity chat.
The walks are hosted by a Space 2 Talk volunteer who will also introduce Action for Happiness and lead discussions related to the 10 Keys of Happier Living.
This Grief Thing
Various dates and locations
As part of our wellbeing programme we are pleased to be working with Fevered Sleep who have created Grief Gatherings. They’re small, free group conversations about grief and they’re open to all. There is no obligation to talk, you’re welcome to just sit and listen.
These will last approximately 1 ½ hours.
Menopause Café
Every other Wednesday starting 2nd August until 11th October, 6pm-7:30pm
These free, informal sessions are designed so you can chat freely about anything menopause related in a comfortable confidential setting.
Wise Tree
Throughout the year, Outside Delapré Abbey’s Visitor Welcome, Free
Life has its moments of hustle and bustle. In the midst of it all, finding a quiet spot to relax and discover uplifting words can help bring comfort and joy to your day.
This beautiful Sycamore tree has stood here grounded, calm and strong throughout the years. People are invited to write meaningful, encouraging words of wisdom to share with the community.
Organisations
Delapré Abbey Preservation Trust with core partners Action for Happiness Northamptonshire, Warts and All Theatre, The General Practice Alliance Federation, Northampton Leisure Trust, Northamptonshire Sport, and the University of Northampton will work to put communities at the heart of public health.
Delapré Abbey Preservation Trust
Delapré Abbey Preservation Trust is an independent charity and company limited by guarantee. The Trust was set up to preserve and promote the heritage and natural environment of Delapré Abbey and the former Bouverie estate. In 2021, responding to new leadership and the impact of the 2020 Covid pandemic, we are refocussing our efforts and broadening our reach and impact. We deliver a range of programmes and activities that support lifelong learning, curiosity and an improved wellbeing.
The University of Northampton
The project will be backed up by research by The University of Northampton who will provide an evaluation of the project in partnership with Thriving Places Index and identify achievements. The supporting evaluation from the University demonstrates its continued commitment to making Northamptonshire the leading county in the UK for Health and Wellbeing.
Action for Happiness Northamptonshire
Action for Happiness is a national and international charity committed to building a happier and more compassionate society based on the framework of ’10 Keys to Happier Living. The Northamptonshire Action for Happiness hub was formed in February 2017 with eight like-minded people. This has grown from Northampton to cover the whole county with an agreed local strategy and is now Action for Happiness exemplar site. Northamptonshire hub has many different wellbeing programmes that include the Happy Café network, partnerships with Delapré Abbey, General Practice Alliance and Northamptonshire Healthcare Foundation 0-19 service to name a few, as well as over 2,000 social media followers.
Space 2 Talk
Space 2 Talk strive to demystify mental health. In simple terms we believe it is okay to not be okay and that being able to talk about our worries or concerns is fundamental to our wellbeing. Space have partnered with Delapré Abbey to host wellbeing and wellness activities at the Abbey.
The General Practice Alliance Federation
Covering nearly all the GP population of Northampton, and employing the majority of PCN Social Prescriber Link Workers across the town, will use a community participative approach to support raising awareness of green social prescribing as a community asset. Embedding the project within the existing networks will help ensure that more people are reached and it has a legacy.
Northamptonshire Sport
One of 43 Active Partnerships across England, Northamptonshire Sport is a local charity dedicated to helping the people of Northamptonshire become – More Active, More Often. Northamptonshire Sport work with local and national partners to reduce inequalities and enable people to enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle.
Northampton Leisure Trust
Trilogy Wellbeing is a not for profit charity and social enterprise based in Northampton. Working with multiple partners, Trilogy Wellbeing operates leisure and wellbeing facilities and supports community programmes across Northampton. Trilogy is committed to developing community-based opportunities for people of all ages to support their health and wellbeing.
