Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service (SPMHS) will be hosting events during the week raising awareness of maternal mental health conditions and providing details of the support available in Northamptonshire.
The service provides assessment, advice and specialist treatment and support for women in Northamptonshire who experience moderate to severe mental health conditions during pregnancy and after having a baby.

Programme:
Tuesday 3rd May
10am – 12noon: Perinatal Team information stand – Daventry Library
An opportunity to meet members of the team to ask questions and get information.
12noon – 1pm: Webinar – Preparing for Motherhood
Delivered by the team’s occupational therapy and nursery nurse staff, this session will challenge assumptions and highlight the difficulties women may experience during pregnancy and soon after giving birth and the impact this may have on their mental health. Discussion will take place about the different ways as a mother you can mentally prepare for this stage in your life and if you are experiencing difficulties the type of support available. Wednesday 4th May
10am – 11am: Perinatal Team Information stand – Rushden Library
An opportunity to meet members of the team to ask questions and get information.
1pm – 2pm: Webinar: Walking in Your Shoes – The Power of Peer Support
This session will provide an understanding of what the role of a peer support worker entails and how important this can be within the recovery for a woman experiencing maternal mental health difficulties. It will be delivered by the team’s Peer Support Workers who have lived experience, have been supported by the service in the past and are now employed in their role to support women and their families who are having similar experiences. An opportunity to meet members of the team to ask questions and get information.
12noon – 1pm: Online Webinar: Managing Mum Guilt
The feelings of guilt and shame are some amongst other common feelings a new mum will have when experiencing mental health difficulties after having a baby. The session will provide an understanding around how and why these feelings develops and provide reassurances through an overview of how we support women open to the service to manage these feelings and fears. 12:30pm – 1:30pm: Webinar – Maternal Mental Health – My Lived Experience
The sharing of stories and experiences allows us to be connected with one another and provides support in overcoming challenges. This session will host a panel sharing their different maternal mental health experiences and providing insight into their shared similarities and differences, fears and concerns felt, and providing hope through sharing their journey to recovery. Sunday 8th May, Delapré Abbey, The Power of Connection
11am-12noon: Mental Wellbeing Walk
Join us for a maternal mental health walk around the beautiful grounds of Delapré Abbey. Meet and connect with other parents and members of the team and appreciate the benefit of walking and connecting in improving mental wellbeing. Book tickets
12pm-1:30pm: Active Sessions
Book onto sessions for Baby Cues and Responsive Parenting, Self Care, and Sensory Group and understand the benefits these are for improving of maternal mental health.Come speak to the professionals and practitioners and understand about maternal mental health and how we support women and families.
